A few years ago, Ginesh Veetil, Senior Functional Consultant in CriticalRiver Dubai, was in a conversation with the founder and director of an IT firm, who proudly introduced himself as a farmer. That conversation planted a seed in his mind —an idea that perhaps one day he too would reconnect with the earth in a similar way.
Years later during COVID-19, that seed began to grow.
Ginesh and his wife, who were passionate about gardening, started growing plants at his home in Kannur, Kerala.
“What started with growing tomatoes, pumpkins, bananas, and other vegetables for my family soon became a fulfilling journey of learning, experimenting and reconnecting with nature,” says Ginesh.
Soon their small patch of green expanded and began to flourish with a variety of fruits and vegetables, each one carrying the joy of having been nurtured at home.
“To make our lifestyle more sustainable, we also installed a small biogas unit that converts kitchen waste into cooking gas, while the residue is used as nutrient-rich organic fertilizer for our plants,” he said.
Although not a commercial venture, Ginesh now and then shares their produce with nearby shops, friends, and family. There’s a quiet happiness in that—knowing that something grown with care is being passed on.
The journey has given Ginesh more than just food, it taught him patience, resilience and the joy of nurturing life – values that have inspired him in his work and beyond.
What started as a fleeting conversation has now become a way of life—one that continues to grow, just like the seeds that started it all.
